Even California is ending its mask mandate

CA Governor Gavin Newsom has revealed that the state plans to reopen in June, doing away with most pandemic restrictions, including its mask mandate.

“We’re going to move beyond the blueprint on the 15th of June, so just in a number of weeks. And that world looks a lot like the world we entered into before the pandemic. We’re not wearing face coverings. We’re not restricted in any way, shape, or form [inaudible] doing the old things that we used to do,” said Newsom in a recent interview.

The decision comes as pundits on both sides of the political aisle criticize President Biden for his confusing stance on masks, even contradicting CDC guidelines.

Of course, this is likely a PR stunt by Newsom to take the spotlight off of his looming recall election. But it’s likely too little, too late for him.

A 10-year-old who once lived in a New York City homeless shelter has achieved a remarkable title for someone his age: chess master.

Tanitoluwa “Tani” Adewumi became America’s newest chess master on May 1 at the age of 10 years, seven months and 28 days, making him the 28th youngest person to achieve the status, according to the U.S. Chess Federation.

“I was very happy that I won and that I got the title,” Tani, a Nigerian refugee, told NPR. “I really love that I finally got it.”
